Low Vision Exam
An Eye Doctor Exam, Functional Vision Evaluation, Learning Media Evaluation, and a Low Vision Exam will provide information about your child's visual abilities in an educaitonal environment and will help the teacher for students with visual impairment to determine a better educational program for your child. The Low Vision Exam is an important exam in helping to determine visual access.
Students with low vision may have a difficult time accessing visual tasks, even with prescribed corrective lenses. Usually it is possible to enhance remaining vision by utilizing low vision devices and by making environmental modifications. Low vision devices may include, low tech, and/or high tech assistive technology, such as magnifiers, monoculars (telescopes), sunglasses, CCTV, electronic magnifiers, etc. Environmental modifications may include controlled lighting, reducing glare, enlarging materials, etc.
In a Low Vision Exam, specially trained low vision specialist or optometrist will carefully measure the student's functional vision by using equipment, lighting, and techniques designed specifically for those with low vision. Appropriate magnifying devices and electronic equipment will then be demonstrated and recommended to allow the student to maximize the remaining use of his or her vision.
